Trademark Categories
Trademark is created under 45 classes with different categories as per the NICE classification for trademark. Each trademark class represents a definite set of products / goods and services. While filing a trademark application, the class of products / goods and services to the trademark pertain should be mentioned in the application. It’s vital to decide on the proper category of trademark class while filing the application, as a wrong classification of trademark might hamper the trademark registration process and /or decline the legal protection for the mark under the Trademark Act.

The Classification of goods and services
Class 1. Chemicals used in industry, photography, science, horticulture agriculture, and forestry, unprocessed plastics, unprocessed artificial resins, manures, tempering and soldering preparations, fire extinguishing compositions, tanning substances, substances for preserving foodstuffs, adhesive used in industry.
Class 2. Paints, lacquers, varnishes, colorants, preservative against rust and against deterioration of wood, raw natural resins, mordents, metal in foil and powder form for painters, printers decorators and artists.
Class 3. Bleaching preparation and other substances for laundry use, polishing, cleaning, soaps, cosmetics, hair lotions, essential oils, perfumery, scouring and abrasive preparations, and dentifrices.

Class 4. Industrial oils and greases, dust absorbing, lubricants, wetting and binding compositions, fuels (including motor spirit) and illuminants, candles, wicks.
Class 5. Pharmaceutical, sanitary preparations and veterinary, food for babies, plasters, dietetic substances adapted for medical use, materials for stopping teeth, materials for dressings, dental wax, disinfectants, preparation for destroying vermin, herbicides, fungicides.
Class 6. Common metal and their alloys, materials of metal for railway tracks, metal building materials transportable buildings of metal, ironmongery, non-electric cables and wires of common metal, small items of metal hardware, tubes of metal and pipes, safes, goods of common metal not included in other classes, ores.
Class 7. Machine and machine tools, motor and engines (except for land vehicles), agricultural implements other than hand-operated, machine coupling and transmission components (except for land vehicles), incubators for eggs.

Class 8. Hand tool and implement (hand-operated), side arms, cutlery, and razors.
Class 9. Scientific, surveying, nautical, photographic, cinematographic, optical, electric, weighing, signaling, measuring, checking (supervision), life saving and teaching apparatus and instruments; apparatus for recording, transmission or reproduction of sound or images, recording discs, magnetic data carriers, automatic vending machines and mechanisms for coin-operated apparatus, calculating machines, cash registers, data processing equipment and computers, fire extinguishing apparatus.
Class 10. Surgical, dental, medical and veterinary apparatus and instruments, eyes and teeth, artificial limbs, suture materials, orthopedics articles.
Class 11. Apparatus for heating, lighting, cooking, steam generating, drying ventilating, refrigerating, water supply and sanitary purposes.
Class 12. Vehicle, apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water.

Class 13. Firearms, projectiles and ammunition, fireworks , explosives.
Class 14. Precious metal and their alloys and goods in precious metals or coated therewith, not included in other classes, precious stones, jewellery, horological and other chronometric instruments.
Class 15. Musical instruments.
Class 16. Paper, cardboard and goods made from these materials, not included in other classes, bookbinding material, printed matter, photographs, stationery, adhesives for stationery or household purposes, artists materials, paint brushes, typewriter and office requisites [except furniture], instructional and teaching material [except apparatus], plastic materials for packaging [not included in other classes], playing cards, printer types, printing blocks.
Class 17. Rubber, gum,, gutta percha, asbestos, mica and goods made from these material and not included in other classes, plastic in extruded form for use in manufacture, packing, stopping and insulating material, flexible pipes not of metal.
Class 18. Leather and imitation of leather, and goods made of these materials and not included in other classes animal skin, hides, trunks and travelling bags, umbrellas, parasols and walking stick whips, harness and saddlery.
Class 19. Building material [non-metallic], non-metallic rigid pipes for building, asphalt, pitch and bitumen, non-metallic transportable building, monument, not of metal.
Class 20. Furniture, mirror, picture frame, goods (not included in other classes) of wood, cork, reed, cane, wicker, horn, bone, ivory, whalebone, shell, amber, mother- of-pearl, meerschaum and substitutes for all these material, or of plastics.
Class 21. Household or kitchen utensils and container (not of precious metal or coated therewith), combs and sponge, brushes (except paints brushes), brush making material, articles for cleaning purpose, steelwool, glassware, porcelain unworked or semi – worked glass (except glass used in building) and earthenware not included in other classes.
Class 22. Rope, string, net, tent, awning, tarpaulin, sail, sack and bag (not included in other classes) padding and stuffing material (except of rubber or plastics), raw fibrous textile materials.
Class 23. Threads and Yarns, for textile use.
Class 24. Textile and textile goods, not included in other classes, bed and table covers.
Class 25. Clothing, footwear, headgear.
Class 26. Ribbons and braid, lace and embroidery, buttons, hooks and eyes, pins and needles, artificial flowers.
Class 27. Carpets, rugs, mats and matting, linoleum and other material for covering existing floor, wall hanging (non-textile).
Class 28. Games and playthings, gymnastic and sporting article not included in other classes, decorations for Christmas trees.
Class 29. Fish, Meat, poultry and game, meat extract, jellies, jams, fruit sauces, preserved, dried and cooked fruits and vegetables, eggs, milk and milk product, edible oils and fats.
Class 30. Tea, coffee, cocoa, rice, tapioca, sago, sugar, artificial coffee, flour and preparations made from cereals, bread, pastry and confectionery, ices, honey, treacle; yeast, baking powder; salt, mustard; vinegar, sauces, (condiments); spices; ice.
Class 31. Agricultural, horticultural and forestry product and grains not included in other classes, live animals, fresh fruits and vegetables, seeds, natural plants and flowers, foodstuffs for animals, malt.
Class 32. Fruit drinks and fruit juices, beers, mineral and aerated waters, and other non-alcoholic drinks, syrups and other preparations for making beverages.
Class 33. Alcoholic beverages (except beers).
Class 34. Tobacco, smokers articles, matches.
